Your Guide to Creating the Ultimate Mother’s Day Bloom Basket

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to show appreciation for your lovely Mum than with a beautifully curated Bloom Basket?!

At Sun Jellies, we are all about embracing individuality and spreading joy. So, let’s create the perfect, personalised Bloom Basket for your Mum, that combines the timeless charm of freshly picked flowers with our nostalgic jelly bags…

First things first. What is a Bloom Basket?

Picture a lovely basket filled to the brim with fresh blooms, lush foliage, and maybe finished with a ribbon or bow. It’s like a little treasure chest bursting with fragrance and prettiness!

The Bloom Basket trend started as a twist on the traditional way of gifting fresh flowers. Instead of just handing over a traditional bouquet, people wanted to sprinkle an extra touch of thoughtfulness and creativity to elevate their gift. Voilà, the Bloom Basket was born! The trend quickly caught on because it allows for personalisation and adds an extra element of delight. Who wouldn’t love to receive flowers in such an adorable way?

We’re all over this trend, here at Sun Jellies. Our Jelly Bags are ideal for bringing a beautiful Bloom Basket together this Mother’s Day. Best of all, once the flowers have gone, Mum will still have her new bag to take out and about as arm candy, or to stylishly store things around the home. It’s the floral gift that keeps on giving!

So, let’s get started with your step-by-step guide to making your Mum’s day this March…

1. Pick Your Colour Scheme

Before you pick your flowers and basket, consider your Mum’s favourite colours. Different colours evoke different emotions and meanings. For example, if your Mum loves blue, it represents tranquillity and calm. Yellow signifies happiness and energy; green says renewal and peace; while pink symbolises love and gratitude. Orange is associated with creativity and purple is said to spark the imagination!

Make your Mum’s day even more special by infusing her Bloom Basket with her favourite colours. Not only will it create a stunning arrangement, but it will also add a personal touch that perfectly reflects her unique personality and taste. When you come to choose your Jelly Basket, we’ve got 16 fab colours to pick from (with two beautiful new shades dropping at the end of February) so there really is something for everyone!

2. Choose Your Blooms

Now that you’ve chosen your colour scheme, it’s time to select your flowers. Spring is the season of new beginnings and beautiful blossoms, making it the perfect time to select vibrant, cheerful blooms for your basket. Some popular spring flowers include Daffodils, Tulips, and Hyacinths. Let’s find out more about these Spring favourites:

Tulips mean ‘true love’ and are traditionally said to announce the start of Spring. They come in a vibrant rainbow of colours, including pink, red, orange, yellow, purple, and even black – but never blue!

Daffodils are a Spring staple. Is it even Spring without a bunch of daffs nearby?! Top tip: once they’ve been taken out of the basket, keep them in a vase on their own for the first 24hrs, as the sap is toxic to other cut flowers.

Hyacinths smell gorgeous! And did you know that each colour Hyacinth smells a little different? They come in lots of colours including white, blue, cream, pink, apricot, lavender, cobalt blue, and deep purples. Pink hyacinths are said to mean ‘playful joy’ and they certainly add some fun and interest to a Bloom Basket.

3. Choose Your Jelly Bag

To complement the beauty of the blooms inside, it’s time to choose the perfect Jelly Bag for your basket. Consider the size, shape, and colour that best suits your Mum’s style. Our Jelly Bags come in lots of delightful shades, from soft pastels to vibrant hues, ensuring there’s a perfect match for every Mum. Not sure which style to choose? Our quick guide should give you some pointers:

Our Retro Baskets are super versatile and have a classic nostalgic design. They come in 3 different sizes and would be great for shorter-stemmed flowers, like Hyacinths, or smaller bouquets.

Our Betty Baskets conjure up romantic vibes and vintage style. They are traditional market-style baskets with a big capacity and lovely wide handles. They’d make the perfect Bloom Basket for larger bouquets. If your Mum loves the vintage look, and wandering around an outdoor market in the sunshine is her idea of bliss, then Betty is the basket for her!

Take Mum on a mid-century meander down memory lane with the Atomic Tote. It’s the perfect blend of American vintage and modern style, and it would be ideal for longer stems or displays with lots of high foliage. It’s a classic that will make your Mum feel special and inject some old-school glamour into her day!

Last (but not least!) we’re excited to show you our brand-new Rosie Basket, which is dropping at the end of February 2024. The Rosie Basket is an ideal shape and size for a gift basket. A medium-sized bouquet would nestle inside beautifully and it’ll be Mum’s new favourite everyday bag once Mother’s Day is over!

4. Add a Finishing Touch

To elevate your finished Bloom Basket, add a finishing touch that will make it truly special. Think about attaching charms, pins, ribbons, bows, or gift-tags. You can select charms or pins that hold sentimental value or represent something meaningful to your Mum. Ribbons and bows add an extra touch of elegance, while gift-tags can be personalised with a name or a heartfelt message.
